When it comes to software drums - I'm not a drummer, but keep in mind the number of feet and hands a drummer has. (I also like the 3 flavors of saturation and 3 flavors of compression.) But any channel strip should work. I am partial to Scheps Omni Channel just because it can do more and has zero latency. A lot of people use an SSL Strip by any number of different companies. To me - the best tool for handling drums is a channel strip. This also let's me EQ the drum parts individually, or as subgroups. For example, I like a different reverb on my snares than I do the cymbals - (although I run a hint of the snare into the bigger cymbal verb as well.) This also allows me to treat the drums differently with reverb. But then I'll put the bass drum and snare into a submix of their own because I like compressing those two together. I find it helpful to submix parts together, like I always have the whole set in a submix bus. This gives you control over the room/overhead/trash/etc. So with Ugritone, ideally you choose the option to use all 14 or 15 outputs which lets you mix the drums individually. I don't do metal, but I love their drums because they aren't overly processed and typically include as many as 4 extra mics. First off, if you're talking about metal drums - Ugritone really deserves a mention.
